Student Voice and Agency

At CHPS, we are not simply about giving students opportunity and ideas, we are about providing students with opportunities to influence change.  Our students collaborate and make decisions with their teachers about what they learn and how it is assessed.  Research has shown this leads to improved educational outcomes.

This is evident when our students:

  • actively seek feedback from teachers and peers to progress learning and reflect on their learning experience
  • are involved in discussions about learning goals and assessment

At our school, student voice and agency are intrinsically linked.  Agency gives our students the power to direct and take responsibility for their learning, creating independent and self-regulating learners.

This is evident when our students:

  • take responsibility for their learning and are, on the whole, independent and self-regulating learners
  • can track and measure their own learning growth through proficiency scales
