We are very proud to announce that Chelsea Heights Primary School has now attained eSmart Status!

This is a wonderful achievement!

What is an eSmart School?

An eSmart school is a school where the smart, safe and responsible use of information and communications technology is a cultural norm. Students, teachers and the wider school community are equipped to embrace the best these technologies can offer, while being savvy about the pitfalls.

Students are regularly involved in developing and delivering information on the smart, safe and responsible use of technologies to a variety of audiences and are taught a suite of social and emotional skills. In eSmart schools, relationships are strong and supportive and learning outcomes are enhanced. Bullying and cyberbullying are therefore less likely to thrive.

A committee drawn from all areas of the school community provides strong and effective organisation to guide implementation of systems, structures and planning to ensure a school reaches and maintains eSmart status.

Why our schools need to be eSmart:

As well as pointing to information and curriculum resources, the eSmart system has been designed to assist schools to record and track their school's cybersafety and wellbeing activities.

  • eSmart is an effective road map to guide schools in developing a sustainable whole-school approach to cybersafety, cyberbullying and bullying. It saves teachers and administrators time by providing direct web access to the best resources from Australia and throughout the world.
  • It is a flexible system that schools can adapt for their own specific needs, whether primary, secondary, metropolitan or country, government, independent or Catholic.
  • It provides useful gap analysis for schools that have already done lots on cybersafety, and guidance to those that are still in the beginning stages.
  • eSmart schools will be able to demonstrate they are doing all they can reasonably do to create a positive school culture and protect children from cyber-risks, and in particular, to address bullying and cyberbullying.
  • eSmart provides the school with a record of activities and tracks the progress in attaining eSmart status.
  • The eSmart system is complementary to, and can assist schools in implementing, the new National Safe Schools Framework. Policies and guidelines for all states and territories and education systems are enacted and embedded through the eSmart system - ensuring no time-wasting duplication of effort.
